Viettel and Samsung are collaborating on research for devices used in 5G gNodeB base stations

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Nguyễn Đình Chiến, Deputy General Director of the Group, and Lee Jun-hee, Vice President of Samsung Networks.

Representing Samsung at the event were Im Aye-ong, Vice President in charge of business for Southeast Asia and Oceania at Samsung Networks, along with other representatives from Samsung Group in Vietnam. On the Viettel side, the ceremony was attended by leaders from the Strategy Department, External Affairs Department, Technical Department, Semiconductor Technology Department, Construction Investment Department, and High-Tech Industry Department, as well as representatives from VHT and VTNet.

According to the cooperation agreement, both parties will collaboratively research and develop the key components of the 5G gNodeB base station based on the Open RAN standard. Viettel and Samsung aim to successfully develop a reliable, secure, and efficient gNodeB 5G base station that can be widely deployed in Vietnam and globally.

The signing ceremony serves as a foundation for the two corporations to realize their partnership, promoting technological innovation and market expansion. Viettel and Samsung look forward to sharing opportunities in 5G solution development, enhancing product quality, and advancing the commercialization of 5G in both domestic and international markets.

During the ceremony, Nguyễn Đình Chiến, Deputy General Director of the Group, provided an overview of Viettel's achievements in its 5G development strategy. He emphasized that the signing represents a small but significant step in the long-term cooperation between Viettel and Samsung.

“Viettel seeks a reliable and capable partner to jointly develop and deliver the best products and solutions, competing with major global players. Therefore, today’s signing is a significant milestone for the future of Viettel and Samsung,” affirmed Deputy General Director Nguyễn Đình Chiến.

In response, Lee Jun-hee emphasized that the cooperation agreement will help both Viettel and Samsung accelerate the development of the new-generation Open RAN radio access network.

“Samsung has many years of experience in building mobile networks worldwide. Furthermore, we have a strong presence in Vietnam with comprehensive product research, development, and manufacturing capabilities,” Lee Jun-hee expressed.

On this occasion, Lee Jun-hee congratulated Viettel on successfully bidding for the 2500 - 2600 MHz spectrum for 5G. He affirmed that this is a significant step for Viettel in advancing the commercialization of 5G.
